About Us

DIY:  abbr Do-It-Yourself [ˌdiː ai ˈwai] is a term used to describe building, modifying, or repairing of something without the aid of experts or professionals. The phrase “do it yourself” came into common usage in the 1950s in reference to home improvement projects which people might choose to complete independently. In recent years, the term DIY has taken on a broader meaning that covers a wide range of skill sets. DIY offers an alternative to modern consumer culture’s emphasis on relying on others to satisfy needs.

We believe as a small business owner you should have total control of your website and not have to count on a programmer, designer, creative agency or your brother’s friend to help get it up and running. You are smart! You own a business and your website is part of that business.

DIY Websites Now was created to help creative thinkers learn the basics of building a solid website and engage in smart social media. We don’t believe in just slapping websites up there just so you have one or spending $15,000 on a site because someone tells you that what’s you need to be successful. You have already created your business and the only missing piece is your website. This is your calling card, so we want it to be cool, easy-to-use and represent you.

After working on what seems like millions of websites, Mariah and Shanti have streamlined the process down to a simple 4-hours starter class that can have you up and running in less than a week. Where you take it from there is up to you!

Shanti Sosienski

Shanti Sosienski has been involved with the internet world since the early 90s, but didn’t become a full on tech-nerd-webtress until around 2007 when she got over her fear of code (thank you WordPress). Since then she has built over 100 websites with the help of some very talented friends-project partners and these days mostly works on her own.

Her philosophy is that small businesses should be in control of their own website and have the ability to make changes on their schedule, not on a programmers schedule. Working with Shanti means you will be a part of the building process and will know how to work on your website after it’s live.

Her philosophy is to keeps rates low by keeping sites simple, clean, functional and evolution friendly because Shanti knows better than anyone that small businesses constantly have to play the “re-invent” game to keep up with the world.

Mariah Palmer

Mariah is a creative at heart but has discovered that learning WordPress and a base level knowledge of code has given her more flexibility to express her creativity. As a freelance graphic/web designer, she loves working with independent entrepreneurs who are passionate about their creation, dedicated to following their dreams and are socially and environmentally aware. As a small business owner herself, she’s excited about helping others pave their own path in today’s constantly evolving business landscape.

Her academic background includes a BA in Clothing, Textiles and Design from the University of Idaho. Her natural talent for design landed her a position with Vickerey.com an independent, artful, and ecologically focused company. At Vickerey, Mariah found a passion for graphic design and art direction while furthering her experience with photography and copy writing. Working in-house for 5 years gave her the perfect foundation to go out on her own. For the past 2 years she has been running her own show, building websites, photographing models and products and helping people with their overall visual presentation. With over 7 years experience in on-line sales and marketing she fully understands the fine balance of creative expression combined with the elegance and professionalism necessary to be noticed and respected in today’s market.

Evan Hobbs

The newest addition to our little family, Evan lives way out east but he connected with Shanti through a WordPress Meetup group in Portland. He loves to code, which is something Shanti and Mariah can’t stand doing. He’s been a perfect fit in our little collective. We’ll be posting more about Evan soon!
